Description
In this new edition of Katharsis, for ten days, we will present a series of performative talks by local artists, which will culminate in a debate with the participation of international artists, also performative. We pay homage to this genre of the performing arts, which has been around since the 1960s, as a somewhat subversive response to all of the debates, roundtables and conferences that assault us in the media and cultural centres concerning social, economic or health crises with experts who fail to connect with the public in their way of expressing ideas.
We think that when artistic action intervenes in these contexts, either in the form of a speech or a debate, what actually takes place is a wise conveyance of knowledge and purging among those attending: it appeals equally to their intellect and their emotions, since in our view the two should be connected when we learn.
We will therefore see artists with different sensibilities and backgrounds who will present their knowledge and concerns in seven performative talks with the special collaboration of the EINA IDEA project.
The audience will also play an important role in the last performative talk, participating in a roundtable with artists from the international scene who will present their thoughts on how they view theatre and how its presence has had to be transformed in the face of the pandemic. Through a dramatic performance, their thoughts will take forms and undergo deformations that will force us to rethink concepts such as presence and truth; two values so highly-prized within the performing arts.
Katharsis began last season, staged at Teatre Lliure, to make us question what theatre is through different forms of expression. Such questioning gives rise to lack of definition and, therefore, a freedom that invites us to be led and to learn through the aesthetic and holistic pleasure that the performing arts can offer us in their countless forms.
